Family Life Educator and Coach is designed to help you better understand marriages and learn important skills that will enable you to enrich relationships. After completion of the course each student will have an understanding of how to: (1.)Strengthen couples communication skills. (2.)Understand predictable events in marriage. (3.)Lessen marital conflict. (4.)Learn hidden killers of marriage. (5.)Develop an understanding of marriage. (6.)Common effects of our Family of Origin. (7.)Self esteem - How do I feel about myself. (8.)Understanding expectations. (9.)Decision making in marriage. (10.)Develop a financial budget and plan. (11.)How each couple can meet their needs. (12.)How to manage Anger and Stress. (13.)How to disagree fairly - Fight fairly (14.)Develop a joint marital agreement. (15.)Understand the roll of Family and friends.
There are no pre-requisites for this course. No prior training or experience is needed to participate. It is recomended that each student complete all lessons, assignments, quizzes, be active in forum areas. You must complete all quizzes to become a Family Life Educator and Coach affiliated with National Marriage Centers. Reading assignments are not required for this course. It is recommended that after becoming affiliated with National Marriage Centers you view the many books, tapes and articles made available to you.

Course Description
This course is for anyone interested in Family Life Education andCoaching.
It will instruct you in the relevant information you will need to acquire. If you are thinking about a career in relationships, this course is for you.
This training program is designed to equip you with the content, materials and educational tools you'll need to train couples in all stages of their relationship. You do not need to have a college education to take this course. It is structured to be user friendly and easy to read.
It is intended for Educators, Mentors, Social Workers, Mental Health Professionals, Clergy, Married Couples and anyoneworking with families.
Upon completion of this course each student will be eligible to become an active participant of the National PreMarital Institute and National MarriageCenters program. Participants will be included in our national directory and receive the benefits of advertising, along with our informational database.
You will also receive client referrals for premarital education and marital coaching from those couples needing services within your local community.
Course Lessons
Lesson 1: Introduction to the NPMI PreMarriage and Marital Coaching Programs with Helpful Hints for Instructors
This lesson will provide you techniques that can be use as the instructor of a 12 hour PreMarriage program and on-going Coaching Service. The instructor is the first person to come in contact with the couple. Each instructor sets the tone for the class.
Lesson 2: What is Marriage
This lesson will give you an understanding of Marriage. Webster s Dictionary defines it as; to unite, take, or give in wedlock; the legal union of husband and wife; the ceremony, civil or religious, This may be the definition, but it is much, much more.
Lesson 3: History of Marriage
This lesson will take you on a brief historical tour of marriage it will help you see the roots from which current marriage customs have evolved.
Lesson 4: An Understanding of Marriage / Reasons for Marriage
A good marriage begins with a true understanding of the marital journey. It is in fact a journey that is constantly changing. In order to understand the changes, basic principles must be understood.
Lesson 5: The Hidden Killers of your Marriage
This lesson will give you a glimpse into negative actions that may lead to an unsatisfying marriage or even a divorce.
Lesson 6: How Do I Feel About Myself - Self Esteem
This lesson will describe what is meant by the term self-esteem and what affect it has on the married couple.
Lesson 7: Family Of Origin
How does the Family of Origin play a major role in the success of the marriage.
Lesson 8: Expectations
In this lesson you will come to understand that when couples say I DO they often ask What Do I Do ?
The Union of Two coming from different families, life styles, beliefs and values is a true formula for disaster
Lesson 9: Communication in Marriage - Part 1
This lesson will provide effective ways for couples to communicate. It is one of the most important lessons. Through communication a couples relationship either grows or is destroyed.
Lesson 10: Communication in Marriage - Part 2
This lesson will provide key elements to insure that the message a person intended to send, is the message that is received by their partner.
Lesson 11: Decision Making in a Relationship.
This lesson will describe Decision-making and why it is an important part of all relationships.
Decision-making can make or break the Couples relationship.
Lesson 12: Financial Budgeting within Relationships
This Lesson provides a brief glimpse into how families meet their need for shelter, food, clothing and care in today s changing economy. Examines earning and spending in a relationship. How couples need to respond with knowledgeable decisions and actions
Lesson 13: Meeting Your Partners Needs. Finding Fulfillment in your Relationship
This Lesson shows how important Couple Commitment and the Fulfillment of each partners needs, are to the success of their relationship and marriage.
Lesson 14: Managing Your Emotions
This lesson will concentrate on the two emotions, Anger and Stress. Most discord and conflict emanate from a misunderstanding of each. If a couple understands how it affects them and their family, they can then move into a stable lifestyle.
Lesson 15: Introduction to Coaching
This lesson will introduce you to Relationship Coaching. What Coaching is and an approach that will enhance the lives of couples and their families in your community.
Lesson 16: Couples Commitment Agreement
This lesson provides a glimpse into couples agreements. What they are and why they are needed both before being marriage and during marriage.
